In recent weeks, there has been a lot of talk about Google's new Helpful Content Update to prioritize useful content . If you want to know how it can affect your website, or what you can do to avoid penalties, we'll tell you about it in this post.
Although we have been preaching for a long time about the importance of creating useful content with people in mind and not search engines, with this update, Google wants to "go a step further in its efforts to show more original and useful content, created by people and for people, in search results."
A year ago we talked about Google's algorithm updates in 2021 and explained that "the algorithms that Google implements in its search engine serve to offer a better experience to the Internet user." But today, some low-quality results still "slip through," clearly written for robots, full of meaningless verbiage and bold here and there:

Both examples are first page results for keywords that, although not highly searched, can be useful for a long tail strategy .
In theory, the new update should improve the quality of the results that appear on the first page. But, as we read in Search Engine Land and Search Engine Journal , Danny bulk telegram blast Sullivan – advisor to Google’s search department – has explained that “the update has not yet been fully deployed and will continue to be fine-tuned and perfected . ”
In any case, our recommendation is to continue creating quality content , without waiting for the update to be perfect, because as much as it may position itself, poor quality content will not help us at all. Content like the examples gives a bad image and has a very high bounce rate. If you want to delve deeper into this topic, we recommend the posts « What is content marketing for? » « How to do content marketing » and « How to choose a content marketing agency ».
Additionally, in the Google Search Center you will find a guide on this new update , with information on how it works and the errors you should avoid.
