Just going to share my process in layering kicks, I'm posting it here because it's not so much a full tutorial.
Lots of people know about layering kicks & do it all sorts of different ways. I personally like to layer two kicks together with a short decay high hat on top. I usually find a kick with the low end I'm looking for first & EQ it a little bit. Once the low end kick is picked I try to find a top end kick that fits with the style I'm looking to create, but also works well with the low end kick. Once I have found both kicks I do some more finalized EQing to get the high & low kick to sit well together. Next thing is getting the hat to add that little extra click/punch. I usually set the decay fairly low, but sometimes when the hat works properly I don't bother with it, a little touch of EQ and it's set. Everything then gets routed to one track where it is compressed & maybe some slight boosts and cuts as needed.
That's usually how I go about it!
I recently started using KICK Synth by SA aswell, it's an awesome plugin & I'd definitely recommend checking it out. Lots of parameters you can tweak to get your kick to sound the way you want.
